Laser hair removal is an efficient method to achieve hair-free skin. Normally, it requires several sessions to guarantee up to 90 percent of permanent hair reduction. Once the recommended number of sessions is completed, you don’t have to think about waxing or shaving regularly. If you want to undergo laser hair removal, you might be wondering what to expect after every laser treatment. Keep reading to know the answer:
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Laser hair removal includes the use of laser light pulses to destroy hair follicles. It targets the melanin in the hair follicle and damages it enough to stop growth. You will usually be required to get treatments in the next 4-6 weeks to target every hair strand in its growth phase until the hair stops growing permanently.
Since lasers target the hair follicles’ main melanin, the procedure works best on patients who have light skin and coarse dark hair. But, newer laser technologies can produce safe and effective results on other hair and skin tone combinations. You can learn more about the procedure at epilationlaserplus.com.
Things to Expect After the Treatment
During the treatment, you can usually feel a stinging, burning, or prickling sensation on parts being targeted. It feels like a rubber band snapping against your skin. But, technologies have reduced these sensations to ensure your comfort and protect your skin during treatment. In addition, your aesthetician may apply a topical numbing cream to your skin before the session to further minimise unwanted sensations. After you complete the session, you may feel some residual discomfort; however, this is just minor and temporary. You can easily manage this with ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams or lotions, and cold water. You should be able to notice a slower or reduced amount of hair growth in the next few weeks. In fact, you will also notice your skin being smoother without stubble.
Aftercare Tips
Your aesthetician will give you aftercare instructions to speed up your recovery after your sessions.
These include:
- Exfoliating. Gently exfoliating the treated area with a scrub or washcloth at least three times per week will further stimulate the shedding process.
- Using sunscreen. You must apply at least SPF30 sunscreen on the treated areas regularly to ensure your skin retains its colour because the treatment will make your skin prone to hyper pigmentation.
- Avoiding some skincare products. Avoid using perfumed skin products, makeup, and skin care with active ingredients on the treated skin for the first 48 hours after the treatment. Some of these products may contain ingredients that can irritate your skin.
